Dear Colleagues,
FOR THOSE OF YOU NOT IN A POSITION FOR A POST-DOC, PLEASE FORWARD THIS
MESSAGE TO ANYONE YOU KNOW WHO MIGHT BE INTERESTED.
A new TEM POST-DOC position is available at the joint laboratory CNRS -
ONERA 'Laboratoire d'Etudes des Microstructures' in Chatillon (Paris),
France.
The position is offered as part of a Training and Mobility of Researchers
(TMR) project 'COMELCAN' on synthesis, electronic and mechanical properties
of nanotubes". Other groups involved are the CNRS in Montpellier (P.
Bernier coordinator of the project), Institut des Materiaux in Nantes
(France), University of San Sebastian (Spain), Trinity College in Dublin
(Ireland), University of Louvain (Belgium).
The objective of the post doctoral project is focused on the formation
mechanism of single wall carbon nanotubes as it is necessarily assisted by
a metal catalyst. It will consist in determining the relationships between
the structure, the composition, the phase transformations of the metallic
particles and their ability to be a nucleation site for the nanotube. To
this aim detailed analyses of the particles will be done by combining in a
TEM/STEM of the latest generation nanodiffraction, high resolution imaging
and energy filtered imaging using the electron energy loss spectroscopy.
The detailed work program will be based on the preliminary results obtained
on the Ni-Y catalyst system and will be extended to the study of different
catalyst systems in order to identify the physical properties of the metals
which control the nanotube nucleation.
The research will mainly consist of advanced TEM work but it will be
coupled with modelisation studies which are also developped within the
network.
Available equipment includes a side-entry 4000FX + EELS, side-entry CM20
Twin + EDX, side entry LEO 923 + STEM + 90° energy filter. Electron
microscopy studies will also be done in cooperation with J. Thibault (CENG
Grenoble) on a top-entry 4000EX and a side entry 3010 + GIF.
The candidate should have a good competence in condensed matter physics. An
experience in transmission electron microscopy and in particular a practice
of the electron energy loss spectroscopy or energy filtered imaging will be
appreciated.
The position is open to a citizen of the european union (excluding France)
and is offered for a period of one or two years, to be decided with the
candidate, and starting AT ANY TIME FROM NOW. The applicant must not be
older than 35 years (extended by mil. service, child care),
For more information, please contact Annick Loiseau at the
coordinates given below or reply to this message.
Best regards
Annick Loiseau
