SCOPE OF THE MEETING
Diffractive Optics 2001 is a continuation of a series of meetings on
diffractive optics, which started with two workshops in Prague (1992 and
1995) and continued with EOS Topical Meetings in Savonlinna (1997) and Jena
(1999). The goal of this series is to bring together scientists and
industrial engineers interested in the use of microstructures and wave
optics in optical design.

All aspects related to this broad and rapidly growing field are covered in
the conference:
· basic theory of wave-optical engineering and diffractive optics
· functional and structural optical design based on wave optics
· fabrication of surface-relief and index-modulated structures
· scientific, industrial, and commercial applications

VENUE
The meeting will take place at the Central Building of the Hungarian
Association of Technical Societies (MTESZ), which is located downtown, next
to the Parliament. It is best reached by Metro (Kossuth tér station). See
the web pages of the conference for detailed information and a map.

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM
The program consists of oral and poster presentations. Because of the
emphasis on a single-session format, the number of oral presentations is
limited and preference is given to contributions that benefit significantly
from oral format (if you feel that only oral presentation is possible,
please specify why when submitting your contribution). Note also that the
poster presentations permit table-top exhibits or demonstrations, which
would be highly appreciated by the program committee (please indicate
whether you need a table to accompany your poster board when submitting your
contribution).

The scientific program of the conference occupies all of Tuesday (October
9), the morning of Wednesday, and all of Thursday. Therefore it is
recommended that you arrive at Budapest on Monday, October 8. You can
register on site already on Monday evening.
CONFERENCE FEES
The conferece fee, which includes the printed proceedings attendance to all
sessions, refreshments, access to e-mail during the meeting, the proceedings
book is USD 145 / EUR 135 if paid until 1st August 2001 and USD 160 / EUR
150 after that date.

conference. Potential exhibitors should contact the secretariat for the
exhibition prices (several categories are available).

Accommodation is offered in hotels of different categories. See the attached
Hotel Reservation Form.
SUBMISSION OF CONTRIBUTIONS
If you wish to present a paper at the conference, please send a 100-word
abstract by e-mail to
jari.turunen AT joensuu.fi
by May 1, 2001. The program
committee will inform the authors about the acceptance of the contributions
by June 1, 2001.

Two-page summaries of all contributions will be published in the proceedings
book, which is distributed to the attendees. Additional copies may be
purchased on site (price: c.a. 25 USD). Instructions for the preparation and
e-mail submission of manuscripts will appear in the web pages of the
conference well before the submission deadline.

JOURNAL OF MODERN OPTICS SPECIAL ISSUE
A special issue of Journal of Modern Optics, which is closely associated
with this topical meeting, will be published in autumn 2002. Authors of
outstanding papers presented in this conference are invited to submit their
full papers for publication in this special issue, which will be fifth in
the series. The submission deadline will be announced at the conference.
